The Rise of ISIS in the ASEAN Region
(CamEd Business School, December 30, 2019) Martin Sviatko
This research paper seeks to examine the emergence of ISIS in the ASEAN region and its debilitating effect on the political stability of the ASEAN member states. Although ASEAN has been confronted by various political and security threats right from its inception, the subversive political terrorism of ISIS represents a brand new and much more perplexing security challenge. The paper starts with a brief review of ASEAN’s history, highlighting the role of external security threat posed by nation-state actors as a key determinant of its establishment. The section of the paper presenting an analysis of subversive terrorism depicts political terrorism as a major asymmetric threat posed by non-state actors. A subsequent insight into ISIS’s background, ideology, structure and modus operandi brings to the fore the magnitude of this problem. This is followed by an analysis of those factors which have facilitated the rise of ISIS in the ASEAN region. Although militarily defeated in its birthplace as of 2019, ISIS continues to show its presence and strength in ASEAN – the region which is geographically remote from the locality where it originated. In its conclusion, the paper recommends a number of solutions that ASEAN can implement in order to tackle and eliminate this asymmetric threat. Relationship between Students’ Achievement in Statistics I and Mathematics Grade, English Gradeand Whether They Are Living with Their Family or Living Independently
(CamEd Business School, December 30, 2019) Mara Mong
There are many key factors contributing to a success in a course at university. This paper will examine the relationship between first year students’ achievement in statistics and quantitative mathematics and English language grades they earned in grade-12 national exam. The effect of how they live (whether students live with their family or not with their family (independently)) on the achievement in statistics is also investigated. Pearson correlation coefficient and t-test comparing two means were employed. The findings suggest that mathematics grade and English language grade statistically correlate with statistics score but the difference in statistics score for the students living with their family and those not living with their family is not statistically significant, that is, whether the students live with their family or living independently does not affect their achievement in statistics I. Keywords: statistics score, relationship, correlation, mathematics grade, English language grade, t-test

An Estimation of Term Structure of Interest Rates in the Cambodia Banking System
(CamEd Business School, December 30, 2019) Siphat Lim
The objective of this research was to study about the term structure of interest rate by applied the four best well known models: CKLS, Merton, Vasicek, and CIR models over the 1-month US dollar lending interest rate of banks in Cambodia. The estimated method of the employed models was GMM. The CKLS result supported the mean reversion effect, but had no evidence of the level effect, while the result of the Merton model had not support even the mean reversion effect, but the diffusion parameter was highly significant. The Vasicek and CIR models had a weakly support the mean reversion effect, but the diffusion parameters were highly significant. The survey result revealed that banks faced with high level of interest rate risk because of the pressure from high level of competition due to the current existing of large numbers of market players in banking industry. Keywords: Term structure of interest rate, CKLS, Merton, Vasicek, CIR, GMM, Survey.

(CamEd Business School, December 30, 2019) Sereyvath Ky
This paper analyzes the level and means of the people’s participation in the sustainable development program of the NCDD (National Committee for Democratic Development) in order to alleviate the poverty via the survey of community development in Cambodia where the decentralization and deconcetration had been introduced since 1996 via Seil program. The people’s participation in rural development was a lesson learnt, which created and funded by UNDP/CARERE and Cambodian Government, for local authority in term local governance delegation in investing in public goods. In the program, grassroots and local authorities play active role in planning, implementing, and monitoring the projects, especially rural physical infrastructures. The development challenges basically are education and income of the grassroots, which undermine a social capital accumulation. The education plays the influent role in planning phase while the income does in implementing phase, where the grassroots are altruism. The low educated and earned people lost their social value in expressing their opinion and idea in planning and implementing phase. Reinforcing Labor Caselaw: Recent Decisions Concerning Union, Strike, FDC
(CamEd Business School, December 30, 2019) Virak Prum
This review on recent decisions reveals the will of the Arbitration Council in defending its precedents in three key areas of labor law, namely, the so-called most representative status of a trade union, the arbitrators’ order to strikers to return to work, and the issue concerning the length of fixed duration contracts. The Council never hesitates to refuse to consider interest-based claims if the union lacks that particular status; it is also quick to discontinue its proceedings should employees disobey its order to stop the strike. Concerning the fixed duration contracts, the well-known “two years and that’s it!” position has not changed. The quickest conclusion is that the Arbitration Council will not change its positions any time soon. Keywords: Interest, most representative, strike, caselaw, FDC.

Growth Mindset: Attitudes and Practices at CamEd Business School
(CamEd Business School, December 30, 2019) Ediri Okoloba Anderson
The purpose of this paper is to assess the growth mindsets of students at CamEd business school. It also assesses classroom practices that either foster or hinder growth mindset and authentic learning, and assesses the mindset of CamEd as organization itself. The assessments were conducted through comprehensive surveys made available to students, lecturers and staff. The findings showed the mindsets of the students to be mixed, with a leaning towards a fixed mindset. Overall, lecturers reported practices that foster a growth mindset in their classrooms, including setting high expectation and providing additional support to reach these aims. As an organization CamEd practices healthy and open discussion between lecturers and leadership. Some of the areas of improvement for classroom teachers were to more intentionally create an atmosphere where it is safe to make mistakes as part of the learning process and provide process praise rather than person and praise. Both of these recommendations are discussed thoroughly. It was also recommended to directly teach the science behind the concept of growth mindset to students. The final recommendation is to improve proactive collaboration among staff at CamEd. Keywords: Growth mindset
